Author Biographies
Amparo Cadavid, Corporación Universitaria Minuto de Dios - UNIMINUTO
Studied history, education and communication. She is an academic and an activist in Development and Peace. Has worked, researched and taught in communications for social change, peace-building, environment and water. Her approaches to research are in the perspectives of IAP, participative research, co-creation. She is a professor at post-graduated programs and a senior researcher with a large experience in Colombia, Latin America and International Universities. Has published scientific articles, chapters and edited books. She has been and still, an international consultant in the design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and systematization of communication strategies.
Cicilia Peruzzo, Universidad Metodista de Sao Paulo
PhD in Communication Sciences from the University of São Paulo (ECA-USP), Brazil. Post-doctorate from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Professor of the Graduate Program in Communication at the Methodist University of São Paulo. Research productivity fellow of CNPq. Author of the books Relações públicas no modo de produção capitalista (4th ed., 2004, Summus Ed.), Comunicação nos movimentos populares (4th reprint, 2005, Ed. Vozes), and Televisão comunitária (2007, Ed. Mauad). Editor and organizer of several collective works. Has published articles in various Brazilian and international scientific journals. Additionally, former president and current member of the Advisory Board of INTERCOM – Brazilian Society of Interdisciplinary Studies in Communication (1999-2002). Former vice-president of LUSOCOM – Lusophone Federation of Communication Sciences (2001-2003). Coordinated the Popular, Community, and Citizenship Communication Working Group of ALAIC – Latin American Association of Communication Researchers from 1996 to 2010. Coordinates the Núcleo de Estudos sobre Comunicação Comunitária e Local (Comuni). Her research areas include community, alternative communication, and citizenship, as well as public relations in social movements.
Thomas Tufte, Loughborough University
Professor Tufte's expertise and experience lie in critically exploring the interrelations between media texts/flows/genres, communicative practices and processes of citizen engagement and social change. His long-standing research interests have evolved around three key areas: media and communication for development and social change; qualitative audience studies; and community development, often times combining the three.
He has led 7 international research projects in the field (between 1992-2017), having sat on numerous editorial boards, and worked in about 30 countries worldwide. He has collaborated with a broad range of organisations in international development cooperation, such as World Bank, UNICEF, UNESCO, USAID, UNDP, FAO, SIDA, Panos, ADRA, Soul City, Femina, Ghana Friendship, and others. Professor Tufte has since 1990 worked with research, teaching, curricular development, consultancy and NGO work in 14 countries in Africa.

Abstract
This issue of Mediaciones celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Faculty of Communication and UNIMINUTO, and it takes this opportunity to shed light on the current state of the field of research and practice into communication and social change. This is a field that for several reasons finds itself at a crossroads. This is reflected in this issue that is diverse and global, with 15 articles covering studies from 9 countries from across both Asia, Africa, Latin America and USA.
