Creative industries and communication for sustainable development Insights from Issue 35 of Mediaciones

Abstract
This issue of Mediaciones explores the strategic role of the creative industries in advancing sustainable development through communication. In a global context shaped by innovation, cultural diversity, and interconnectedness, creative industries emerge as economic and social drivers that foster employment, community cohesion, environmental justice, and civic participation. The articles included examine cases from Latin America, Asia, and Africa, demonstrating how communication—across advertising, organizational communication, community media, digital platforms, journalism, and media education—contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The contributions highlight the transformative potential of creativity, culture, and communication to strengthen democracy, inclusion, peace, youth activism, environmental resilience, and local creative economies. Collectively, this issue underscores the need to recognize communication as a transversal and essential component of sustainable development.
