1. Communication as a cross-cutting axis of the SDGs
Communication is a key component in implementing and monitoring the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As a vehicle for information, dialogue, social mobilization, and citizen empowerment, it plays a vital role in addressing global challenges like climate change, inequality, and disinformation.
According to Servaes and Yusha’u (2023), communication could be recognized as SDG 18, given its articulating role in achieving the 17 existing goals. This perspective highlights the need to consider communication not only as a medium, but as a human right and a global public good.
2. Creative industries as drivers of sustainable development
Creative industries—including design, music, film, literature, advertising, and digital media—have a growing impact on the global economy and the production of symbolic and cultural value. According to UNESCO (2023), these industries foster employment, strengthen social cohesion, and promote cultural diversity, playing a key role in achieving goals such as gender equality, quality education, and inclusive economic growth.
3. Convergence between communication and creative industries for sustainability
The convergence of communication and creative industries offers a strategic opportunity to promote the SDGs through narrative, participatory, and inclusive approaches. Visual campaigns, transmedia storytelling, social design, and digital platforms become powerful tools for awareness, education, and collective action.
Special consideration will be given to proposals analyzing local or regional experiences, as well as initiatives that integrate social innovation, community participation, interculturality, and emerging technologies.
