School and social environment: tensions and contradictions

Abstract

The following article embraces a series of considerations about the role of school in the changing processes of society, the subsequent policies that are devised for it, and the obstacles it encounters. Furthermore, it addresses some conditions of social inequality and injustice, citizen rights, unfavourable situations of the public schools, and the teachers’ roles concerning ethical and political commitments towards their work.
