The debate between republican and neoliberal education
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article is part of a research project on the neoliberal concept of education compared with the republican and Dewey concepts. The Chilean student movement combines mass mobilizations against the current education system with a proposal for a new project, inviting majority citizen support. The conservatives defend the current system based on the neoliberal conception of Hayek and Friedman, installed during the Pinochet dictatorship and perfected in the post-authoritarian period. Student leaders and critical sectors struggle for free public education of high quality, and for the end of profit in private education. This position articulates the republicanism of national history with libertarian European traditions.
