IRoad safety indicators to analyze truck accidents on Calle 13 of Bogotá (2015-2021)
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study analyzes the behavior of road accidents on Bogotá’s main cargo road, Calle 13. Trucks, as road actors, are fundamental in the urban distribution of goods, especially foodstuffs. Calle 13 has the highest traffic load of food distribution trucks, moving 28% of the annual load. The magnitude of the road accident phenomenon is relevant both nationally and internationally in urban centers. The United Nations records figures of 1.3 deaths in the world in road accidents per 100,000 inhabitants, therefore road safety strategies should be part of the Sustainable Development Objectives of resilient cities. Methodologically, this study started with the comparison of six types of road accident analysis. Three of them from international entities: International Transport Forum (IFT), ECLAC road safety indicators and indicators from the Argentina. At the national level, indicators from the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE), the National Road Safety Agency and the Mobility Secretary of Bogota were analyzed for accidents involving trucks. Through multivariate analysis, 5 indicators were defined to interpret the phenomenon of truck accidents. Finally, the indicators were applied to the accident data for 6 years (2015 to 2021) to evaluate their usefulness for their characterization as a contribution to policy definition.
