Abstract

Different studies have been carried out worldwide that reveal the environmental impacts of the construction sector. These impacts are associated
with the materials, the machinery used, the techniques used, the geographical conditions in which the construction is located, and the demand for energy and resources during its use. In the case of Colombia, environmental impact studies in the construction sector are scarce, and even scarcer in vertical constructions, which motivated the present investigation centered on the evaluation of environmental impacts of a twelve-story residential building in Bogotá, using a life cycle analysis. This analysis is carried out from the production phase of the construction materials, transport, construction, use and up to their final disposal, applying the CML- 2015 impact assessment method. The results show that among the main impacts are AD and GWP, and that the use stage is where 97% of the total environmental impacts of the building are present, as it is the stage where most energy and water is consumed, especially associated with consumption habits.
