Abstract

Since plastic is considered an essential raw material for the production of several products, there is the opportunity to analyze the dynamic behavior of the supply chain management in Colombia. This paper argues that strategic modeling is an important measure to build confidence in a simulation model regardless of validity test. In order to analyze the main variables of the supply chain, the article shows a dynamic viewpoint to understand the relationship between the players. The aim of this paper is to explore and discuss the plastic-supply chain structure, and the guidelines for the strategic modeling through a stock-and-flow diagram of a system dynamics model. The major finding of this paper consists in an overview of the strategic modeling and drivers of a system dynamics model in supply chain management.

Milton Mauricio Herrera R, Corporación Universitaria Minuto de Dios

Is an Asociate Professor of Marketing Engineering, Universidad Piloto de Colombia. He is the Director of getec Group of Universidad Católica de Colombia and asociate researcher of gip Group. He received his BSc. and MSc. in Industrial Engineering from Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas and actually is a PhD Candidate in Model Based Policy and Public Management at Universidad Jorge Tadeo Loza­no. He is a member of the System Dynamics Society- Latinoaméricano Chapter. His interests include system dynamics modelling, diffusion of innovation model and energy markets.

Angélica Martínez, Corporación Universitaria Minuto de Dios

Is an Asociate Researcher of getec Group, Universidad Católica de Colombia. He received his BSc. in Industrial Engineering from Universidad Minuto de Dios. She teaches production and operation management, and system dynamics. Her interests incluide system dynamics modelling, energy policy and logistic.
