Project Management as an Approach to Strengthen Development in Professional and Academic Environments of Engineering

Abstract
Project management has become an important element in recent years for the development of technical and multidisciplinary competencies in the field of engineering, both in professional and academic contexts. However, in many engineering programs, contents related to project management or administration have limited presence within the curricula, which may create a gap between the demands of the labor market and the training received by students in higher education institutions.
The purpose of this article is to analyze the role of project management in engineering education and its contribution to the development of competencies required for performance in professional and academic environments. To achieve this objective, a narrative literature review with systematic elements was conducted in order to integrate theoretical contributions and experiences reported in the literature regarding the teaching and application of project management in higher education.
