Abstract

The aim of this paper is to reflect on the current status of Venezuelan international migration. For this purpose, the author carried out a historical review in the Latin American and national backgrounds in Ecuador, concerning the economic, political and social changes that have influenced the increase in the records of emigration by Venezuelan citizens, changing the pattern of immigrant-receiving country into immigrant-emitting country. Some numbers show an increase in the interest in less popular destinations, such as Ecuador. It is believed that nearly 16 000 Venezuelan immigrants live legally in this country, while a similar number are undocumented.
