Abstract

This interview with the first vice president of the National Academy of Letters of Uruguay, Gerardo Caetano, aims to discuss the political situation in Latin America, based on the questions that have been made about some fundamental concepts, such as the one that is understood by democracy. The answers provided by the doctor are essential, since he recounts the history of the last two centuries to confront the panorama that can be seen in current national situations and the role played by other institutions or organizations, such as the press.
