Abstract
In contemporary society, we witness the uncontrollable development of both productive and “destructive” forces. Therefore, we cope with a number of “environmental edges” endangering the reproduction of the biosphere. In this context, Latin America must re-think the conception of development, so that public policy and civil society come up with new strategies to deal with the dangers that lurk the twentieth century.
