The approach is qualitative with a phenomenological design, in this study the experiences of each of the people (codependents) and how this phenomenon influenced the lives of each of them are described. In order to identify the conditions, the following categories were taken into account: parental, emotional, behavioral style, interpersonal relationships, and health, this being an emerging category. The instruments used for this research were: a semi-structured interview that allowed a detailed analysis of the aggravating risks in codependent people and the Beck’s inventory, which revealed the level of depression.
It is analyzed that codependent people have common traits and that they have a binding pattern characterized by thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that they suffer from in their daily lives. Likewise, it was possible to show high affections in interpersonal, emotional, and health relationships in the codependent person. In addition to this, the way that families have coped with this phenomenon has generated coping strategies such as tolerance and avoidance. Regarding the parental style, one family was characterized by being authoritarian and the other two permissive.
