Digital Preservation
The Journal MEDIACIONES is committed to long-term digital preservation of its contents to ensure continuous access to its articles and academic resources in digital format. Our digital preservation policy aligns with Open Journal System (OJS) standards and follows best practices in the industry to guarantee the permanence and accessibility of published materials.
- Ensure continuous access to published articles, regardless of technological changes or system failures.
- Maintain the integrity and authenticity of content over time.
- Protect against data loss due to technological or physical causes.
Backups
-
- We conduct periodic backups of all content hosted on the OJS system. These backups are stored in multiple secure locations and regularly reviewed for integrity.
- Backups are automated and scheduled at daily and weekly intervals to duplicate the entire database and files of the journal.
Migration and Format Updating
-
- To prevent digital format obsolescence, we implement migration practices as technology advances, adapting file formats to the most current and stable versions for long-term preservation.
- Articles are stored in widely accepted formats, such as PDF/A, designed for long-term digital preservation.
Free Circulation of Content
-
- At Revista MEDIACIONES, We allow authors to deposit versions of their articles in an institutional repository or a repository of their choice. This policy, in line with the journal’s open access commitment and the adopted Creative Commons licensing, ensures free circulation, continuous access, and digital preservation, thereby promoting the permanent dissemination of scientific research.
Use of Redundant Archiving Systems
-
- The journal employs redundant archives on external and internal servers to enhance content security and minimize the risk of data loss in case of technical failures.
- Archival systems comply with LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) standards to ensure the long-term recovery and preservation of files.
Partnerships with Repositories and Preservation Networks
-
- The contents of Journal MEDIACIONES are registered and stored in external academic repositories and digital preservation platforms, such as Amelica, Redalyc, Scielo, PKP Preservation Network, among others, which facilitate access and preservation beyond the journal’s main system.
- We are in the process of integrating with networks such as CLOCKSS and Portico, ensuring further redundancy and backup of materials.
Use of Persistent Identifiers (DOI)
-
- All published articles receive a unique DOI (Digital Object Identifier), which facilitates locating, referencing, and preserving content over time. This system ensures that links to content remain stable and accessible in the long term.
Complete and Standard Metadata Preservation
-
- The journal follows metadata standards recommended by Dublin Core and the Open Archives Initiative (OAI-PMH), facilitating interoperability with other platforms and increasing the visibility and preservation of articles in various systems and databases.
Quality Control and Integrity Review Policies
-
- Periodic quality controls are implemented to verify the integrity of files, backups, and preservation records.
- The OJS platform allows archive audits and notifies the editorial team of any changes in content accessibility.
These policies are reviewed and updated annually to adapt to technological changes and ensure their effectiveness in long-term digital preservation. Any updates will be communicated to users in the relevant section of the platform.
