Abstract

Political correctness (PC) was and remains prototypical of the kinds of issues that came to characterise the rapidly shifting political landscape of the 1990s. Thus, it is symptomatic of certain broader historical trends, and therefore seems useful even at this late stage. This article places the concept PC in a broader historical context before charting a path through its contradictions.

Stuart Hall

Nació en 1932, en Kingston, Jamaica. En 1951, viajó a Gran Bretaña para estudiar en Oxford. Fue una figura fundadora de los estudios culturales. Los artículos que escribió abordan temas que van desde la racialización y la identidad hasta la situación postcolonial y la diáspora; desde las teorías de la representación hasta análisis sobre los medios de comunicación. Murió en 2014, en Londres, Inglaterra.
