Social representation of the Wayuu indigenous: a perspective from the colombian online press
Main Article Content
Abstract
In this paper, an analysis is made of the quantitative content of the news published in two important online newspapers of national circulation in Colombia, ElTiempo.com and ElEspectador.com, about the Wayuu indigenous people, seeking to understand how these media show the “indigenous being” and whether there is a construction of negative or positive opinions regarding their practices, beliefs and values. This analysis is comprised between the years 2015-2017. This date is determined because, in 2015, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights required that the Colombian State take precautionary measures against the situation of child mortality and malnutrition of this ethnic group. However, nothing had changed by December 2017.
